Introduction
Xender is a file-sharing application that enables direct data transfer between devices without requiring an internet connection. It uses a local Wi-Fi hotspot to create a peer-to-peer network, allowing users to send and receive photos, videos, apps, and other documents quickly and securely. Users choose Xender for its high-speed transfers, cross-platform compatibility, and the convenience of offline sharing, making it an essential tool for managing files across different operating systems.
Creating a Local Wi-Fi Hotspot
To initiate a transfer, one device running Xender must create a hotspot. This function does not consume mobile data. Other users then connect their devices to this newly created Wi-Fi network directly through their phone’s settings. Once the local network is established, the Xender application on all connected devices recognizes the group. This setup is the foundational step that enables all subsequent offline sharing, allowing Xender to facilitate connections between Android, iOS, and Windows platforms seamlessly.
Sending Files to Another Device
The primary action in Xender is sending files. A user selects the “Send” option within the app, which then displays other active devices on the local network. The sender taps on a recipient’s device name to establish a connection. They then browse their phone’s storage through the Xender interface to select specific files or entire folders. After confirming the selection, the transfer begins immediately. The sender can monitor the progress in real-time through an on-screen progress bar until the files are successfully delivered.
Receiving Incoming Files
When another user sends files, the recipient’s device with Xender installed receives a connection request and a notification. The recipient must tap “Accept” to start the transfer. All incoming files are automatically saved to a dedicated “Xender” folder on the device to keep them organized. The application shows the transfer speed and the remaining time for the download. Users can manage these received files later directly from the app or their device’s file manager.
Group Sharing with Multiple People
Xender supports sharing with multiple recipients simultaneously. The user creating the hotspot becomes the group owner. Others join by connecting to the hotspot and opening Xender, which adds them to the sharing group. The sender can then select files and choose multiple devices from the list to distribute the content to everyone at once. This function is efficient for sharing a single file, like a video or presentation, with an entire group without performing individual transfers, saving significant time.
Cross-Platform Transfers Between Phone and PC
For transferring files between a mobile device and a computer, Xender provides a web-based solution. On the computer, the user visits a specific URL shown in the Xender mobile app. This generates a QR code. The phone user then scans this QR code through the Xender application’s “Connect to PC” feature, linking the two devices over the same Wi-Fi network. Once connected, users can drag and drop files between their computer browser and phone, or vice versa, for effortless management of large files.
Managing and Organizing Transferred Files
The application includes a file manager to organize content. Inside Xender, users can navigate to the “Received” or “Files” section to view all incoming and outgoing transfers. This manager allows users to sort files by type, such as images, videos, apps, or documents. They can preview, delete, or share these files again directly from this hub. This centralized management system helps users keep their transferred content orderly without needing to use a separate file explorer app.
